"It is by the activity of the passions that our reason is improved; for we desire knowledge only because we wish to enjoy it..."
          --Jean Jacques Rousseau, 1754
"A Discourse on the Origin of Inequality Among Men," First Part

DMT and GHB -- your body naturally produces and intoxicates you with many of the drugs that are banned by the United States, Federal government. But why? The human being is a complex organism, and its brain is perhaps its most involved feature. With all the brilliance attributed to the human mind, why does it make and feed you drugs? And it does this against your will, if it must. Your reflexes, your thoughts, your dreams, all of these things are influenced by these chemicals. They give you particular passions, hopes, and ideas. And yet, it is illegal to do to yourself what your brain does to you anyway.

Then there are plenty of drugs that simply act like naturally-produced chemicals. Marijuana, or cannabinoids, act like endocannabinoids, which are naturally produced by the human brain. Your body feeds you these substances, sometimes acting as stimulants, sometimes acting as depressants -- but all of them acting as drugs.

Melatonin is used to regulate and control sleep patterns. You can buy this at any grocery store today. You use soap to clean away bacteria, without leaving it just to your immune system. Similarly, the drugs that you put into your body are a logical choice -- they are about supporting how your body naturally gives you happiness, longevity, and life. Another natural drug of the body, GHB, used to be available at grocery stores, too. Then it was pulled when the FBI realized it was being used as a recreational drug.

"The feeling of happiness derived from the satisfaction of a wild instinctual impulse untamed by the ego is incomparably more intense than that derived from sating an instinct that has been tamed."
          --Sigmund Freud, 1930
"Civilization and Its Discontents," chapter 2

We never leave any organ of the body unattended; we give nutrients to our organs and exercise to our muscles. These are the natural ingredients towards healthy living. But why is it that the brain's processes are left so neglected? Consciousness is nothing more than an electro-chemical process. Why is it that chemical support of this process is always rejected? It is thrown down and suppressed by schools, universities, churches, community groups, and political parties. Every social institution has signed up: they are all against drugs and drug use.

But even medicine was banned by these institutes, on account that "medicine interferes with god's ultimate plan." Instead of this perfect reasoning, today they'll tell you not to smoke marijuana, "because it interferes with society." These are the people who banned the greatest humanitarians from the churches, such as Leo Tolstoy. And they are the ones who make profits out of wars and foreign slavery. Humanity and society has never been their goal. Listening to them moralize about drugs is the only true poison of the brain -- the only real destroyer of original thought.

You must live with your brain, and whatever thoughts it has. You must feel the suffering it reflects from the environment, and the questions about why these things must be. If this is your condition, then you have every right to improve and sustain the functions of the mind. A million things can be done to accomplish thing, but chemical additives have their unique capabilities. And remember: since it is an outcast science, you must be your own scientist. You must be aware of everything that you put into your body, and willing to take responsibility for it.

"I loved when [George] Bush came out and said, 'We are losing the war against drugs.' You know what that implies? There's a war being fought, and the people on drugs are winning it."
          --Bill Hicks, 1993
          "Queens Theatre Late Show"
